This institute commenced operations in 2002 with a unique branch, Communication and Computer Engineering, in a temporary campus in Jaipur. Today, the institute operates out of its modern campus, about 10 km from the Jaipur-Agra Highway. The institute offers the following five areas of specialization (also known as disciplines):
The Bachelors program is of four years. The first batch of 29 UG students graduated in 2007.
In its more than eight years of operation, the LNM IIT has developed an infrastructure including on-campus housing, hostels for boys and girls, sports facilities, an open-air theater, lecture halls, labs, and LAN connectivity.
During a dinner hosted for chief minister Ashok Gehlot, steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal discussed plans to expand his Jaipur-based Lakshmi N Mittal Institute of Information Technology (LNMIIT). It is considered among the top 10 IT-schools and top 25 engineering colleges in India. A deemed university, LNMIIT was jointly set up by the state government and the Lakshmi and Usha Mittal Foundation, as an autonomous non-profit organisation. Mittal was also the part of the meeting where the delegation discussed the proposed 2012 Jaipur convention for NRIs from the state. The London chapter of the foundation has volunteered to co-ordinate with NRIs across Europe for the 2012 convention.[3]
Students who appear in either the AIEEE or the Joint Entrance Exam conducted by the IITs (IIT-JEE) are eligible to apply for admission to the LNMIIT. The LNMIIT will consider the AIEEE All India Rank as well as the performance in IIT-JEE to offer admissions to the candidates.
Apart from this general selection criteria, LNMIIT offers direct admission to boys within top 10 ranks and girls within top 20 ranks in senior secondary exam of 12th class conducted by the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education. Only those students who have studied Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English in 12th class will be considered for admission through this route.[4]
A limited number of scholarships are available, based on merit.
The LNMIIT has a very liberal policy with respect to the courses a student can do during his or her undergraduate education. From 2011 students are assured to be allotted one of the first two branch of their filled choices. Students are allowed to change their branches after completing their first year of undergraduate program. This provision is available to every student.
The institute offers the following postgraduate degrees:
Each year student elections are held for clubs and committees for food arrangements, interaction of the student community with the administration of the university, hostel facilities, and coordination of active sports and cultural activities in the university.
The students are the chief participants in organizing festivals and celebrations with the institute's inter-college cultural and technical fest. Every major event isorganized, handled and coordinated completely by students. Faculty and management of the institute is always with the students.
