L'Aigle is a commune in the Orne department in Basse-Normandie in north-western France.

This commune used to be known as Laigle. According to Orderic Vitalis, the nest of an eagle (aigle in French) was discovered during the construction of the castle.

The Risle river flows through the commune.

The city has a population of almost nine thousand people but has recently seen a decline. Some residents of the city believe that this is because of the lack of future prospects for youth in the area.
