Kymore is a town and a nagar panchayat in Katni district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

Overview

This place has lots of lime stone mines around. The British during its rule over India, identified its potential and established a cement factory here. After independence this cement plant came under the ownership of ACC Ltd.. This cement plant was later expanded. Also Everest Industries Ltd established an asbestos sheet manufacturing facility. The entire town population and its activities are due to these two industries. Currently 2.2 million tonnes of cement per annum is produced here.

Around this town are lots of large abandoned limestone mines . These were abandoned due to either depletion of limestone or lack to technology during that period to economically mine there. Now these act as artificial water reservoirs. Currently the limestone for the cement plants has to be mined from nearby Mahegaon mines, which is about 11 km away. India's second longest conveyor belt has been built here to fetch limestone from these mines.

Kymore hills run along from North to West of the entire town. Its height ranges from 100 to 200 meters.

Dussehra is the biggest annual event here. The effigy of Ravana made here ranges in height from 140–160 feet, which is highest in the country. People from far away places visit during this time to witness the event.
