The Kuvayı Milliye Derneği (National Forces Society) is an ultra-nationalist organization based in Mersin, Turkey.[1] It was founded by retired Turkish army colonel Fikri Karadağ, a former member of the Union of Power of Patriotic Forces (Turkish: Vatansever Kuvvetler Güçbirliği Derneği) which organized an attack on the Turkish Council of State in 2006.[2] Karadağ has been detained as part of the Ergenekon investigation.
A videotaped initiation speech of the group's Antalya chapter, from 15 December 2006, was captured in a January 2007 raid, following the arrest of the group's vice president Murat Çağlar for possession of unregistered firearms.[3] In the video, which is laced with nationalist rhetoric, Karadağ has initiating members swear to be prepared to "kill and be killed."[2][4] The Istanbul governor filed a complaint on seven of the group's leaders for violation of the Penal Code, Associations Law, and Civil Code.[5][6]
