Kupchanis

The Kupchanis are a Baloch sept, now represented by only a few families in Bhakkar.

Traditional origins

Kupchani traditions hold that they fled from Persia into Baluchistan whence they were expelled by the Marri, Bugti, Qaisrani and Kahiri septs of Baloch. In the eastern Kachhi region, the Marris, Bugtis, and Kahiris all say that, prior to their advent into that tract, it was held by a people called Kupchani of Jat origin or status. This tradition lends support to the theory that Baluchistan was once occupied by Jat, who were driven out by the Pathan, Brahui, and Baloch.
