Krasnokamsk (Russian: Краснока́мск) is a town of krai significance in Perm Krai, Russia, located on the right bank of the Kama River, 35 kilometers (22 mi) west of Perm by road. Population: 51,929 (2010 Census preliminary results);[1] 53,724 (2002 Census);[2] 57,681 (1989 Census).[5]

Municipally, the town territory is incorporated as Krasnokamsky Municipal District.

Contents

History

Foundation of the town is associated with the construction of the Kama paper mill. 1930 is considered to be the date of the foundation. The settlement was originally called Bumstroy, but in 1933 it was renamed Krasnokamsk and was granted urban-type settlement status. In 1938, it was granted town status.

The construction of the paper mill lead to the emergence of the Zakamsk CHP and Goznak paper and printing factory. In 1942 on the basis of evacuees from the Moscow Oblast enterprise was created metal grid factory.

In 1934, oil was found on the factory's territory and in 1936 the extraction of petroleum directly on the town territory began. In 1943, oil refinery was built. Later were created light and food industry factories.

Transport

Krasnokamsk has advantageous transport position. 9 km branch line connect it with main railroad Perm – Moskow. Important highway runs through Krasnokamsk and connect Perm, Ochyor and Igra (Udmurt Republic). Town connected by bus with nearby towns and settlements. Formerly, at Soviet Times, there was also river transport, allows to rich left bank of Kama faster but now it doesn’t exist.
