Kotkay

Kotkay or Kotkai is a small village near Aloch in the Shangla District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Originally the villages of Kotkay and Nimkalay were a single area referred to as Aloch-1, then it was divided into two villages.

Geography

Many streams are present in Kotkay, with water flowing from the higher mountains. The stream called Jingaro Chena is famous for its cold water.

There are two other areas of Kotkay, known as Garang and Colony. They both link the village to higher areas known as Bunerwalo. Colony and central Kotkay are separated by a stream which is highly flooded during rains. The Pakistani army built a bridge there which is also very beautiful.

Religious edifices

There are four mosques in this small village. The main mosque of Kotkay is in the village center, and there are three others in the areas know;n as Chargay, Garang and Colony. there is small darasgah on the dera of dr AFSAR KHAN .

Education

The main mosque of Kotkay has a madrassa where children receive religious education. There are two other schools in the village: a school for girls in the center of the village, and a partially co-educational school across the road. Boys and girls are mixed only in primary school.

Village life

Kotkay is small enough that almost everyone in the village knows everyone else. Only 5% of people in this village live below the poverty line. But they never go to sleep hungry.
