Koratla

Koratla is a town and a municipality in Karimnagar district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.^[1]

Koratla is located at .^[2] It has an average elevation of 286 metres (938 ft).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,^[3] Koratla had a population of 54,021. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Koratla has an average literacy rate of 60%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 69%, and female literacy is 51%. In Koratla, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.

How did the name Korutla come?

The Priests, and saints (Munulu,Rushulu) belong to the tribe of “Koravattu”, used to live in this place and they used to do their worshipping, Devotional Activities here, so that in the era of jaina's it was called “Koravattu”, As days were passing it had been changing as “Koravatlu”, “Koratlu” and it had changed to the present Name “KORUTLA”.

• The population of Korutla is about 75,000 and mostly business oriented city. Trade in textiles, making beedies and inflow from non resident Indians working in the gulf are the main sources of income for this city.
• Koratla has got good history, still has many more old structures as a marks of history. Near by has a great siphon which is called biggest siphon in Asia,also known for a big banyan tree which is formed over 6 acres (24,000 m²). people here known for their devotional beliefs. Sai baba temple of here has got the name as second Shirdi, which is recognized by the people across a.p and other states also. Temples in Koratla Sri Venkateswara swami temple,The Koti Navadurga, Shiva Markandeya temple (which was built with 1 crore of Printed Durag coins) and Ayyappa Temple. And five rice mills are most popular.
• The Government of Andhra Pradesh established a new Veterinary College during the year 2008-09 at Korutla vide G.O.Ms. No. 96, Dated:19.9.2008 of the AHDD & F Dept, Government of Andhra Pradesh. The College started functioning from the academic year 2008-09 with an intake of 19 students into the first year B.V.Sc & A.H course. The District Collector, Karimnagar Dt. has allotted land to an extent of Ac.72-19 cts on long lease basis for the construction of new college building. So for, 3 batches students were admitted and the total number of students on rolls is 79 (57 boys + 22 girls)
