Biography

Career

Kollegah began recording in 2005 and released his first mixtape, Zuhältertape Vol. 1 (engl: Pimptape vol 1), which was available as a free internet download. In 2005 he signed to Selfmade Records, where he re-released his mixtape, now titled Zuhältertape X-Mas Edition.

On July 9, 2006 his second mixtape, Boss der Bosse, was released. Most of the album's instrumentals were produced by Rizbo.

His first solo album was planned to be released in September 2007 but was postponed due to a lawsuit against Kollegah. Eventually it was released on 16 November 2007. A music video for the song "Kuck auf die Goldkette 2007" (engl: Look at the gold chain 2007) was produced. It premiered on October 23, 2007. It reached 1st place on the German MTV-Show TRL Urban several times.

The Tracks "Showtime" and "Sommer" from his mixtape Boss der Bosse were used in the soundtrack of Nachtspuren, a German independent-film.

On April 17, 2009 Selfmade Records released their compilation album Chronik 2, which reached #15 in the German album-charts and became the highest entrance for the label.

On June 16, 2009 Kollegah released a collaboration album with Farid Bang, entitled Jung, brutal, gutaussehend (engl: young, brutal, good-looking). It managed to reach #30 in German album-charts.

Controversy

Aggro Berlin

On 11 March 2009, Chronik 2 was released, an album featuring the Selfmade Records artists. The song "Westdeutschlands Kings" performed by Kollegah, Favorite and Farid Bang, targeted insults at Sido, Fler and Kitty Kat from Aggro Berlin.[2]

On 13 March, a song titled "Früher wart ihr Fans" was released by Fler, Kitty Kat and Godsilla as a reaction. In the song, they accuse Selfmade Records artists of having created the feud for the sole purpose of marketing their album; Kitty Kat also attacks Favorite by referring to the death of his parents, who died in a car accident.

Kollegah responded on 20 March with the song "Fanpost", calling Fler a "fat potato" and claims that he was penetrated with a carrot.[3]

Fler responded with the song "Schrei nach Liebe", the chorus of which is heavily based on Die Ärzte's 1993 hit single "Schrei nach Liebe".[4]
