Klaus Koch (born October 4, 1926) is an Old Testament Scholar with major contribution to the growth of Biblical Studies.

Koch first studied in the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz (one of the top ten Universities in Germany) and later at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen (one of the oldest universities in Germany).

He did his doctoral dissertation at the Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg (the third University established in the Holy Roman Empire) under Rev. Dr. Gerhard von Rad the then Old Testament scholar.[1]

Later, Dr. Koch became a Pastor in the Lutheran Church[2] in Prießnitz.

Koch began his teaching career as a professor at the University of Kiel. He is Professor Emeritus of Old Testament and History of the Ancient near East Religions at the University of Hamburg, Germany.[3]

He identified Martin Noth and Gerhard von Rad as the Fathers of Redaction Criticism in Old Testament Studies.[4] Klaus Koch's inquisitive articles kept the interest in Old Testament. One of them was Is there a Doctrine of Retribution in the Old Testament ?[5]
