Kinwat is a city and a municipal council in Nanded district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The Kinwat taluka came into existence in 1905 by combining villages from Narsapur and Nirmal talukas in Adilabad district then coming under the Hyderabad division.[1]

Kinwat is located at [2]. It has an average elevation of 314 metres (1030 feet). The river Penganga flows aside the town. Nagzari dam is situated just few kilometers away from the town which is one of the important water source to residents nearby in the summer. Drinking water is fetched from the deep ground levels by new colonies which may be the cause for sunken water table.The Most popular residential area is SVM colony.The city has large scale farms on Kinwat-Mandwa-Nagzari road. It is rich in forest wealth.
Kinwat is a railway station on Mudkhed-Adilabad Meter Gauge Section of then Hyderabad(HYB) Division of South Central Railway(SCR). After Divisional adjustments in 2003, which saw the bifurcation of Hyderabad Division, Kinwat now comes under Nanded(NED) Division of SCR. The Mudkhed-Adilabad Meter Gauge Section has since been converted into Broad Gauge. Now the broad gauge link from Kinwat to other major cities like Mumbai, Nagpur,Aurangabad lead to huge benefits to citizens as it allows new trains to ply from the station.

In 1901 Kinwat town had a population of only 1,514.[3] As of 2001[update] India census[4], Kinwat had a population of 24,867. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Kinwat has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 72%, and female literacy is 57%. In Kinwat, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.Kinwat has a big forest around it. Different animals can be spotted around and in these forests.
