Kini

Keni is a family name used by the Goud Saraswat Brahmins (GSB for short) of the Konkan region of India.

Those who cultivated herbs were Kinvis, presently called Kini or Keni. The Keni are also found in Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka. Most of them would have their kuldevatas in Goa.The tax collectors of the coasts during Shivaji's rule were also known as Kenis because the tax was called Ken.

The Kinis have now spread across the world in different countries (mostly in GCC countries) as NRIs (Non-Resident Indians).
