Khipro (Urdu: کھپرو, Sindhi :کپرو ) Khipro is a taluka, an administrative subdivision, of Sanghar District, Sindh, Pakistan. This is largest taluka in Pakistan by its area. From two sides it is connected to the major cities like Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, and remaining two are connecting with border of India. There is also a Government Degree College where the graduate and Post graduate classes are being held under the University of Sindh Affiliation.

History

Older people say the name "Khipro" is taken from the name "Khiper" which was the name of a fisherman. It is a very old city, there are still many old places which belong to the time of British and before the British Era.

Distribution

Taluka Khipro is based on 9 Union Councils in which 3 union councils are located in desert. The east side of taluka Khipro is along with Indian Border. Khipro is a basically an agriculture city, its major crops are cotton and red chilies.

The Culture of the city is Mixed up of Hindu and Muslim Communities where 52 percent of the peoples are Muslim and remaining 48 percent are Hindu and Christian. Most of the Muslims belong to Kaimkhani, Lohar Bhatti, Rajput, shaikh, Arain, Gajju, Jatt, Bozdar, Laghari, Rajar, [[Hingoro], [DARS]], Junejo,HINGORJO communities and in Hindus most of the peoples belongs to Lohana, Khatri, Malhi, Bhil, Kolhi, Guriro and Kachhi communities. It is also famous and word Khipro is derived from word Khip ( it is herbal tree) there was a jungle of Khip where peole sit and used to travel for different routes,i.e Khahi( Town), Dhilyar ( town)and hathungo (Town) and also to Achhro Thar and Jessalmer.

Culture

However, Kumbhar Lohar, Bhatti, Rajput, Arain, Shaikh, Kaimkhani and Jatt, communities are counted in majority of Khipro. The majority of the population is the followers of Makhdoom of Hala, Pir Sahab Pagara and Pir of Multan.

Education

Khipro town has two boys high schools, one girls high school, one boys college and one girls college. There are many private sector educational institutions in Khipro. Government (N)Islamia High School Khipro is one of the historical institutions from where many notable figure of national and international repute emerged.

Peoples

There have been many well known personalities from this small town. In politics, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Khan Junejo, was also from Khipro Taluka. Later on, his ancestral village was separated from Khipro and went under the jurisdiction of Mirpurkhas district.

Sufis & Saints

Classical poet Manthar Faqir Rajar is from Khipro. Apart from that there are many other saints. A good number of Hindu secred places are in Khipro and its vicinity. A great saint Shri Pursanaram Saheb's Samadhi is also located at Hathungo 10 Kms from Khipro.

Hur Movement

The renowned freedom movement called "Hur movemenet" was fought in Tehsil Khipro and Sangher Distt. There is a long list of Hur fighters who were from Khipro. They secrified their lives for Pakistan. Later in 1965 and 1971 the Hurs have played crucial role for the defence of the country.
