Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF)

Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) is a Pakistani charitable organization that comes under the jurisdiction of the Mutahida Qoumi movement (MQM). As highly organized, active and effective social organization the wide spectrum of KKF’s services, is spread throughout the country.[1]

History

Mr. Altaf Hussain and his colleagues formed the Khidmat-e-Khalq Committee (KKC ) in 1978 (The KKC was transformed into KKF, i.e.- Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation in January 1998).[2] Social services of Mr. Altaf Hussain, the Founder and Leader of the MQM and his colleagues were started long before the Mohajir Students Organization MQM came into existence in 1984, later transformed in to the Mutahida Qoumi movement (MQM).[3] The first ever generated fund Of KKC was consisted of the pocket money and remuneration by the tuitions given by Mr Altaf Hussain and his companions. This fund which was received from students was used to help other less fortunate students to buy course books and for admission and examination fees.[4] In the year 1979 and 1982 KKF distributed record amount of food, clothing, other things for daily use and medical aid amongst dispossessed exodus families of stranded Pakistanis from Bangladesh. KKF also established an aid camp at West Wharf, Karachi, where the arrangements for medical facilities were organized and goods worth Rs. 17,440 were distributed.[5]

Services Provided by KKF

KKF offers monthly distribution of financial aid to the poor and needy people of Pakistan. The foundation also manage the provision of dowries to needy and orphan girls for their marriages. During the month of Ramadan Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation offer their annual aid distribution among the deserving people.[6] Continuous provision of free medical treatment and medications is also one of the prime services provided by this organization. With the help of MQM, KKF provides legal assistance to those victims of State repression, who cannot afford it, under a full-fledged section known as the "Legal Aid Committee".[7] In case of any trouble Khidmat-e-Khalq instantly forms its relief camps throughout the country. Its relief camps are always equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and full of required goods.[8] The services provided by KKF has been acclaimed and supported internationally.[9]

Following the traditions of KKF’s services in national disasters, the foundation again showed tremendous efforts in the relief of the affected people of earthquake 2005. KKF established numerous medical camps all over the affected areas.[10]

KKF and Floods in Pakistan

KKF showed its outstanding work in the relief activities during Pakistan'd worst flood disaster in the year 2010. These relief mission by KKF is still in continuation.[11][12] Recently, the KKF delivered six trucks full of relief goods to the flood-affected areas for Sukkur and Multant. The representatives of KKF dispatched this consignment from the KKF head office.The relief goods were rice, pulses, spices, sugar, dry milk, ghee, and edible oil as well as medicines, clothes and drinking water.[13]

KKF's Relief for Terrorism Affected People

Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation took brave steps to provide relief to terrorism affected people of Pakistan. The KKf's officials and volunteers visited the people and provided the relief goods and cash money to the affected people.[14][15]

Association with International Charities

Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) is also working in partnership with the Society for the Unwell & Needy (SUN), a Charity operating successfully in UK and USA. KKF together with SUN, is playing a potential role in providing relief for victims of the disasters in Pakistan. Besides emergency relief, KKF and SUN came together to set up the SUN Academy in Karachi Pakistan to provide quality education for the poor and needy children in Karachi and to challenge educational inequality in Pakistan. The selfless efforts of KKF and SUN has been appreciated by the people and the Government of Pakistan.[16][17]
