Khedbrahma (Gujarati: ખેડબ્રહ્મા) is a city and a municipality in Sabarkantha district in the Indian state of Gujarat.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Khedbrahma had a population of 25,547. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Khedbrahma has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 73%, and female literacy is 56%. In Khedbrahma, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

There is a "sangam (meeting point)" of three small rivers in Khedbrahma, namely Hirnakshi, Bhimakshi & Kosambi. After the confluence of these three rivers, the river's name becomes "HARNAV," which flows into the Sabarmati river.

History

Khedbhrama is known for its historical values, Lord Brahma’s Temple and goddess Ambika temple, Jain Temple of Mahavir, and its tribal population. Every year many people come here on pilgrimage to Ambika temple. There are only two temples of Lord Brahma in the world (with stand of statue), one in Pushkar & the second in Khedbrahma.

According to Padmapuran this is an ancient teerth being known as Brahmpur in Saty Yug; Agnikhet in Treta; Hiranyapur in Dwapar and talukhet in Kali Yug. Puratan Brahmakshetra says that many Digambar temples were also present in this locality. An inscription of Samvat 1256 is present in the ancient Aditi Vav. Many rise and falls have taken place here. The present Jain temple is considered to have been built 500 years ago.

Transportation

From Ahmedabad it is 122 KM away.
From Himmatnagar it is 52 KM away.
From Ambaji it is only 50 KM away.

Khedbrahma has a bus-station of state transport (GSRTC), and a railway station which has two trains a day.

Villages of Khedbrahma Taluka include: Matoda, Radhivad, Agia, Derol, Metral, Poshina, etc. There are so many communities live in Khedbrhma area like Ajana Patel, Kachhi Patel, Charotar Patel (from District of Kheda, Gujarat India most of them reside overseas) Brahmin. But most of them are Adivasis.

There is also the Bhrugurushi temple, which is believed to be to as old as 1000 BC. According to legend, Saint Bhrugurushi had to spend about 200 years of his life praying to Lord Shiva at this three river sangam in order to fulfill his wish. Kashi Vishvanath Temple and Pankheshvar Temple are situated on the bank of the Harnav River. Both temples are very popular in this area. The College of Khedbrahma is another historical place, which is situated on the mountain.

Shree Kshirjamba mahalaxmi temple is also situated at the bank of river. So many peoples are visit at kartiki purnima.
