Khatav is a town and taluka place located in Phaltan subdivision of Satara district. Town has a population of around 20.000.

Khatav is located at .[1] It has an average elevation of 777 metres (2549 feet).
Khatav Taluka is situated to south of Satara district. Vaduj is the headquarter of taluka which is located 13 km on southern site of khatav. Khatav taluka is surrounded by Man, Karad, Phaltan and Koregaon talukas. The taluka receives less rainfall and categorized under drought affected region.
Towns in the taluka: Vaduj is the Headquarter of Khatav Taluka. Other important towns are Pusegaon, Mayani, Aundh, Kaledhon, Pusesavali, Khatav.
Major villages: Budh (Behind Of Pusegaon), Vadgaon(Jayram Swami), Ner, Vardhangad, Chitali, Mayani, Mol, Diskal, Jaygaon, Siddheshwar Kuroli, Jakahngaon, Bhosare, Loni, Katar Khatav,Tadawale, Bhurkwadi, Daruj, Darjai, Dharpudi, Nimsod, Nidhal. There are many other villages like Holi cha gaon, Shirasavdi, Dhakatwadi, Gopuj, Gurasale, Enkul, Tadavale, Ambavade, Palsi, Dambevadi, Satevadi, Nadosi, Wadi, Trimali, Kalambi, Pusesavli, Wakeshwar, Kanakatre, Mhasurne, Dharpudi etc.
The houses are spread far away from each other and the water is sought from wells mostly. Dhakatwadi is small village in Khatav Taluka which is famous for onion and sugercane production. Jagtapwadi is small village near Bhushangad in khatav taluka.
Vaduj is a very well known town within satara district. Vaduj is the headquarter of Tehsil as most of the government offices are located here. Vaduj is located on the bank of river Yerala. There are small vastis (group of 10-20 homes) located surrounding the Vaduj.
There are two ways to go to Vaduj from Pune. 1) Pune -> Satara->Pusegaon ->Khatav(^Dharpudi^)-> Vaduj ( Using Pune-Bangalore Highway) 2) Pune -> Saswad -> Jejuri -> Nira -> Lonand -> Phaltan -> Dahiwadi -> Vaduj
However town has very good and helpful living culture.
Schools located in Vaduj are Chattrapati shivaji high school (CSHV) and Hutatma parsuram vidyalava (HPV). In addition to this there are 10-15 schools for primary education in Marathi and English medium. Town has very good culture of education because of which ever year 70-90 students migrate to Pune, Mumbai for higher education studies like engineering, medical, pharmacy etc. in
There are historical places located nearby. Some of them are Gondwale(temple of gondwalekar maharaj), Aundh (temple of yamai devi) and Pusegaon (temple of Sevagiri maharaj).
Shri Girija Shankar Wadi is a small village in khatav. Their Kulswami is Palicha Khandoba. This village is famous for temple of Shiv Shankar known as "Girija Shankar Mandir". In the month of February at Mahashivratri there are village fairs for 8 to 10 days with lots of programs held during this duration.
Shirasavdi is a small village in khatav tehsil on Vaduj - Gursale - Bhushangad road and comes in Madha Constituency. Most of the people leaving here have surname 'Ingle'. Their Kulswamini is Goddes Vajubai (temple located at Vajegaon in Patan taluka). History tells that these people(ingle) came to this village in search of food. This is one of the most drought affected villages in Maharashtra without any proper roads or water facility for drinking/farming. Farming here is main moccupation.
Vadgaon(Jayram Swami) is a small village in khatav tehsil,just 16 km away from vaduj city and 3 km from Pusesavali.Mostly dominated by maratha clan.... their surname is "GHARGE". GHARGE's are the maratha dynasty,tresses there roots back to "MAHABHARATA". There is math of "JAYARAM SWAMI". Many temple in this village like raul(where murti's of many gods out of 33 crore Hindu gods). Also a dargah of PIR RAJEBAKSAR,which is a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity,there is festival on 'Gudhipadava'.
Mol in khatav taluka is situated on North border of Khatav Taluka. The main occupation of Mol villagers is farming. This village is surrounded by hill areas and valleys. The temples in the village are very nice to see. This village is one of the beautiful place to visit. Near Mol, Majarwadi is nice place to visit.
Pedgaon is a small village in khatav tehsil, just 6 km away from vaduj city. Major occupation of population is farming. Most of the people are Jagdale by surname. Small villages located near to Pedgaon are Pawarwadi, Sherewasti. Most of the people in these villages are Jagdale by surname. Jagdale's are maratha clan. Roots of this family are Maratha Pawar dynasty situated in Dhar (Madhya Pradesh). So called Dhar che pawar.- Arunkumar Jagdale . There are also some house of surname Barge also.
Dharpudi is small village near Khatav just 3 km away from 'Sahajiraje Mahavidyalaya Khatav' mostly populated with maratha clans with surname JAGTAP-from a family of Shrimant Sarkar GODAJIRAJE JAGTAP, aqYadav , economy of this village is based on farming , people use to grow jawar, Wheat, Potato, Beans, Sugarcane etc. in farm . Most of the farming is depends on rain water . "Kalikamata "is gram devi & very famous temple situated at the center of this place.In the month of March on Eaknath Shashti there is Kalikamata fair . For 8 to 10 days lots of programs held during this duration.

Loni is a small village in khatav teshil, it is between Bhosare and Dhakatwadi, mostly populated with maratha clans with surname phadtare -deshmukh and Harsh Jitendra shinde & shirke.
Kumathe (Nagache) one of the small village in khatav teshil, just 7 km away from Vaduj city. This village is situated near 'Bapshacha Dongar'. Many temple in this village like Kumbheshwar, Nagoba, Vitthal rakhumai, Maruti, Ram, Baliram, Jyotiba, Laxmi etc. In this city all category ( Bara balutedar ) people lives happily. Mayani Bird Sanctuary is located near Vaduj, in India.
Many migratory birds pass through the area, such as Flamingos from Siberia, which come in large numbers. Approximately 400 migratory birds were reported in 2005.
Other birds like the Northern Shoveler, Stork and Kingfisher are also found at the sanctuary. Other resident and migratory bird species in the winter season include: Coot, Brahminy Ducks, Black Ibis, Painted storks, Common Spoon bills, etc. The nests of storks are also observed near the lake. Flamingos are regular winter visitors to the place. The flamingo species are observed feeding in shallow water. They mainly feed on insects, small fishes and crabs. The aquatic plant species Otolisa species can be found in shallow waters - flamingos have been observed to feed on this species as a food source.
Mayani Bird Sanctuary is studied as a typical wetland ecosystem which is rich in flora and fauna.It is observed that, the hydrophytic species like otolia sps grows very well in shallow water. It is the main source of food for aquatic birds.Other food is available viz. small fishes, crabs, water insects etc. also observed. Some efforts have been made for conservation of natural forest near the lake. This region is mainly under drought condition. Some plots have been allotted to local farmers, such as on the lake's dam during summer when the water dries up. There are also some medicinal plants grown in the region. Cactus are also planted nearby the lake.
The winter season (November to January) is the best time to visit the Mayani sanctuary
Mayani Bird Sanctuary (Khatav T; 17° 25' N, 74° 30' E; RS. Koreganv 36 m. NW; p. 4,485) lies in the Satara district of Maharashtra state, thirteen miles south-east of Vaduj at the junction of the Tasganv-Mograla and Malharpeth-Pandharpur roads. The town is walled and entered by gates on the west and east.
Katarkhatav is another village in Khatav taluka. Its distance from Vaduj is 9 km.Famous and ancient "KATRESHVAR" temple is in Katarkhatav. Population is about 3250. Major population is covered BAGAL's. These are Suryavanshi Kshatriyas and present in large population in villages Katarkhatav, Yalamarwadi, Yeralawadi, Dambhewadi and Bagalwadi.
"Rathani"It is located near the vaduj from 15 KM. In Rathani there is 2 sub villages, Channe mala and Nikam mala . Nearest villages are Chorade,Vadgaon,Masurna,Vanjuli,Shanavadi and Bushangad. In rathani their titles are Thorat,Channe(Salunki),Nikam.
Varud is the most of village in khatav taluka. This village is very attractive and natural. Every year in February the gramdaivat of BAHIROBA festival.
Yelmarwadi is another village situated to the east of Katarkhatav around 3 KM away. Most of the residence of the village are'BAGAL's and SHINGADE. Approximate population is around 1500. There is a small temple of God "BHAIROBA" around 2 KM away from the village. You can go for nice short trek to reach Bhairoba's temple. During rainy season you can see nice greenery around the village.
"Nayakachiwadi"-- small village in Khatav Taluka. Approximate population is arround 1400. Most of the residence of the village are JADHAV.Famous of the temple MARUTI & SONARSHIDHA & Ganesh Mandir "Pargaon ":It is another small village in khatav taluka.Approximate population is arround 1500.it is near of pusesavli.it is famous for wrestling.
