He made his professional debut for Charlton Athletic football club during the 1996–97 season. He joined Queens Park Rangers on a months loan in December 2000.[1] He was placed on the transfer list by Charlton in February 2002,[2] but eventually signed a new two year-deal with Charlton in May.[3] Reading had been tracking Lisbie, but ended their interest in late 2003, but manager Alan Pardew said he would wait until Lisbie's contract with Charlton would come to an end.[4] Possibly his best moment in a Charlton shirt was his stunning hat-trick against Liverpool in a 3–2 win over the Merseyside club in September 2003.[5] Lisbie signed a new three-year deal with Charlton in June 2004.[6] He was a regular for Charlton during the 2004–05 season, until he started suffering from a series of nosebleeds, which revealed a benign tumour in the back of his nose, which was treated over the summer of 2005.[7]
Lisbie made a month's loan move to Norwich City in September 2005 and was recalled by Charlton in October.[8][9] Later that season, he completed a months loan move to Derby County in February 2006, as the club tried to resolve an injury crisis.[10] Lisbie was ruled out for three months with a shoulder injury in October 2006,[11] and returned for Charlton's game against Bolton Wanderers in January 2007.[12]
Lisbie was released by Charlton in July after struggling to break into the first team and after several loan spells away from the club it was clear that his future lied elsewhere.
In August 2007, following a successful trial period, Lisbie joined Colchester United and scored 17 goals and finished the clubs top scorer, however, despite a prolific season from the striker, the U's were relegated from the Championship. Colchester were receiving interest from their East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town and the U's offered him a new deal to attempt to fend Ipswich off. However, Ipswich triggered a relegated release clause in Lisbie's contract of £500,000 and Ipswich agreed to meet the demands. [13][14]
Lisbie signed a three-year deal with Ipswich Town for fee of £600,000 in July 2008. Despite a promising start to his Town career, he soon struggled to get into the first team and in August 2009, Lisbie re-signed for Colchester United in League One on a season long loan deal. He scored a brace in his second debut for the club in a 7-1 victory against recently relegated Norwich City. Lisbie, who is very much a fans' favourite at the U's, had another good season with the Essex club as he finished top scorer again with 13 goals as the U's finished 8th in League One. The U's were keen to keep him at the club on a more permanent basis but Lisbie revealed that he won't be returning to the U's although he still expected that he won't be playing for Ipswich again.
After a good season with Colchester United he was quickly signed up on another season long loan deal by Kenny Jackett at Millwall after they secured a return to the Championship in 2010 with a successful play-off campaign. He finished that particular season with 4 goals in 19 appearances, his season was somewhat blighted by injury.
He was released from his contract at Ipswich Town and as of June 2011, he was a free agent.
Kevin Lisbie signed on a free transfer for League One side Leyton Orient on a four-month contract, on 9 September 2011.
He has represented the Jamaican national team.
