Kenneth Gordon Thomson (born 1930 in Stoke-on-Trent, England) was a footballer who played in The Football League for Hartlepool United, Middlesbrough and Stoke City. He made 278 appearances for Stoke.[1]

Career

Thomson was poised to sign for Stoke in 1946 but he was called up for national service. After his demob Thomson joined his home town club Aberdeen. However Stoke manager Frank Taylor finally got his signature in 1952. At Stoke he became a strong, commanding defender. Despite being relegated in his first season with Thomson missing a penalty kick which would have seen Stoke safe he was made captain by Taylor. He went on to make over 300 appearances for Stoke in all competitions before moving on to Middlesbrough and Hartlepool United. Thomson died of a heart attack in 1969 at the age of 39.[2]
