The Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (KCAET), the only Agricultural Engineering college in Kerala, is named after the freedom fighter and social reformer Sri. K. Kelappan is situated at Tavanur in Malappuram distirict. [1]
The college is affiliated to the faculty of Agricultural Engineering of Kerala Agricultural University.
B.Tech. and M.Tech. Agricultural Engineering courses were started on this 99-acre (400,000 m2) campus in 1985[2].
The major courses offered at KCAET are B.Tech. in Agricultural Engineering with intake capacity of 40 and M.Tech in Agricultural Engineering[1].
M.Tech[Ag.Engg.] is offered in the desciplines of Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Farm Power Machinery and Energy, Food Processing Engineering each having an intake capacity of 5[1].

In 1963, Government of India started the Rural Institute at Tavanur (Malappuram District) in Kerala. The 99 hectare of land for the institute was acquired from Sri.Vasudevan Nambudiri of Tavanur Mana and several others.[1]. In 1975 the institute was taken over by Kerala Agricultural University and was renamed as Institute of Agricultural Technology (IAT). IAT offered Diploma in Agricultural Science, Diploma in Agricultural and Rural Engineering etc.[2]
The institute was again renamed as Kelappaji College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology in 1985. Till then the Agricultural Engineering course was under the Collge of Agriculture, Vellayani. This was then bought to Tavanur and was renamed as B.Tech and M.Tech Agricultural Engineering under the faculty of Agricultural Engineering of KAU[1].
