Kawkhali (Bengali: কাউখালী ) is an Upazila of Pirojpur District in the Division of Barisal, Bangladesh.

Kawkhali is located at . It has 13,763 households and a total area 79.64 km².

Demographics

As of 1991 Bangladesh census[1], Kawkhali has a population of 70,347. Males constitute are 50.46% of the population, and females 49.54%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 37,391. Kawkhali has an average literacy rate of 50.4% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.[2]

About kawkhali town:-- Kawkhali is one of the famous small towns of Bangladesh. Its communication depends on rivers and roads. It has a launch ghut and a famous steamer ghat which date from British period. The Gabkhan Channel, which is known as the Suez channel of Bangladesh, starts from Kawkhali near the village of Ashoa. On it many ships run from Mongla seaport to Dhaka with foreign products. Kawkhali town is small but fresh & fine. Many famous people have been born here. Many NGOs are active with their own mission.
