Katraj

Katraj (Marathi: कात्रज) is a village near Pune in Maharashtra state of India and within the jurisdiction of Pune Municipal Corporation. The adjacent hill is called Katraj Ghat (mountain pass). Pune-Satara highway, NH4, passes through Katraj Ghat. Katraj Snake Park is located at Katraj. NH4 is the national highway from Mumbai to Bangalore via Pune.

Katraj Tunnels

In olden times, the road from Pune to Satara went over the top of the hill. A tunnel (the old tunnel) was constructed when two-lane national highway, NH4, was constructed in 1980s. A new tunnel was bored through the hill for widening the highway to four lanes in 2007.

Old Katraj Tunnel

The old tunnel is located on Katraj ghat. It is used by MSRTC buses and other vehicles from Swargate to south Maharashtra and few travelling in Konkan area and on the return route.

New Katraj Tunnel

The New Katraj Tunnel is located on the NH 4, Pune, India. It is a three-lane tunnel. The tunnel is 1,338 metre long . This tunnel replaced the Old Katraj Tunnel.

Katraj Ghat

Katraj Ghat (mountain pass) begins at the south of Katraj village. At the southern end of the ghat, the new alignment of NH4 through the New Katraj Tunnel merges with the old alignment of the highway.

Katraj Lake

This Lake is located in Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in Katraj village. This lake is spread over 17 hectares (42 acres). The lake is surrounded by hills and trees. The lake is good for Boating.
