Career

Karanvir Bohra's first tryst with acting was as a child actor in his father's film ‘Teja', in which he portrayed the young Sanjay Dutt. From a very young age, Karanvir was interested in cinema and assisted his father in films under the guidance of the late director Bharat Rungacharey. In his teens, Karanvir learnt the ropes of film making under the dedicated administration of B.P.Singh, master of such thrillers as ‘CID’ and ‘Aahat.’

After learning the ins and outs of working behind the camera, he was given the opportunity to face the camera in ads like Chlormint, Levi's, BPL, Fun Republic and Frooti.

He also did a number of plays with the likes of Satyadev Dubey, Nadira Babbar, Alyque Padamsee and Quasar Padamsee. Karanvir produced his first play, "Plain Crazy About Love", where he shared the stage with legendary actress Helen along with his wife Teejay Sidhu.

He was introduced as the teen heart-throb Kabir in the television series Just Mohabbat. Proving his talent on the show, he landed the role of the sweet boy next door, ‘Dhruv’ in UTV’s popular show, Shararat (sitcom).

Karanvir's next break would be his biggest ever. After an extensive search for the perfect actor to play ‘Prem’ in Balaji television’s top-rated show, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Ekta Kapoor zeroed in on Karanvir. His sensitive portrayal of Prem and Prem’s alter-ego, Yudi, became a rage.

In 2007, his talent and intense looks earned him an audition with one of India’s leading Bollywood directors, Aziz Mirza. He was cast in Mirza’s film, Kismat Konnection, alongside Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan, thus beginning his tryst with the big screen. This, though only a cameo, was only the beginning of bigger things to come.

Acting and dancing go hand-in-hand, so proving himself as a dancer was next on Karanvir’s agenda. He and his wife Teejay Sidhu participated in Sony TV’s dance reality show, “Kabhi Kabhi Pyaar, Kabhi Kabhi Yaar,” where they finished runners-up. Judges Mahesh Bhatt, Ganesh Hegde & Sameera Reddy were impressed by their fancy footwork and incredible chemistry onstage. This show was a step towards the mother of all reality shows, ‘Nach Baliye', where Karanvir had to prove himself to dance experts Farah Khan and Karisma Kapur. On the first day itself, Karanvir became Farah’s favourite, with her commenting that he was the best dancer in the show, and that he was ‘flawless’ onstage.
