Kanthararom (Thai: กันทรารมย์) is a district (Amphoe) in the northeastern part of Sisaket Province, northeastern Thailand.

History

The district was established in 1897, then named Uthai Sisaket (อุทัยศีร์ษะเกษ). It was renamed to Kanthararom in 1913.[1] In 1926 the district office was moved to Ban Khambon in tambon Dun.

Facilities

Kanthararom, (local name is shortened to read 'Kantarom') This typical agricultural market town, has developed rapidly since 2004. Probably as a result being located almost halfway on the main highway between Sisaket (provincial capital of Sisaket Province) and Ubon Rachathani (provincial capital of Ubon Rachathani Province. The Capitals being very large cities. Almost every type of small enterprise is represented in Kanthararom - also Hospital, Senior School - primary schools, Railway Station on main line between Bangkok and Warin Chamrap (immediately south of Ubon Rachathani) Banks, Post Office etc..

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from the south clockwise) Non Khun, Nam Kliang, Mueang Sisaket and Yang Chum Noi of Sisaket Province, Khueang Nai, Mueang Ubon Ratchathani, Warin Chamrap and Samrong. Located halfway on the main highway between Sisaket (provincial capital of Sisaket Province) and Ubon Rachathani (provincial capital of Ubon Rachathani Province.

Administration

The district is subdivided into 16 subdistricts (tambon), which are further subdivided into 169 villages (muban). Kanthararom is a township (thesaban tambon) which covers parts of the tambon Dun. There are further 16 Tambon administrative organizations (TAO).
