The hotel is located on Nakasero Hill Road in Nakasero, Kampala's most prestigious location. The building is being erected on a 14 acres (5.7 ha) site that was previously occupied by the state's television stations. The elevation of the construction site is approximately 1,240 metres (4,070 ft) above sea level, making it one of the highest points in the city.[3]
Aya Investments Limited, a subsidiary of the Aya Group, have been working on the 24-story building that was initially scheduled to open in 2007.[4] As a result of cash shortages and administrative difficulties the hotel remains uncompleted, as of November 2011. When completed, it will be the second-tallest building in the city, behind the Kampala Intercontinental Hotel, which is also under construction.[5]
Together with the Kampala Serena Hotel, and the Kampala Intercontinental Hotel, the Kampala Hilton will be one of the three five-star hotels in Uganda. As of February 2011[update], the Hilton hotel chain had twenty-five operational properties in Africa, with another fifteen (15), still in development.[6][7] In November 2011, the Bujumbura Doubletree Hotel became the 41st African property and the 16th under development.[8]
