It is primarily an industrial weaver's co-operative society which employs more than 2,500 people, keeping all the people above the poverty line. The Handloom products manufactured here are exported world-wide and well known for their quality and long life.
This village has a population of around 300 people. Majority of them belong to 'Gounder' community. The people of this village are very prosperous and influential in the Chennimalai area. The village has seen a migration of people from inside the village towards Arachalur road, and the population is growing fast rate. The area is gradually becoming urbanised.

Kalikkavalasu has a lake that is flooded during every North-east Monsoon. It attracts variety of birds after December. The lake gets water from the stream carrying overflowing water from Namakkalpalayam lake. This lake is the main source of underground water for the villages around Kalikkavalasu.
The main source of irrigation is wells. Crops like coconut, banana, sorghum, maize, and pulses grow very well due to the red soil and tropical climate of the village. Also, cattle rearing is very common and successful.
