Kalambur is a panchayat town in Tiruvanamalai district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census[1], Kalambur had a population of 13,303. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Kalambur has an average literacy rate of 68%(now 75%), higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 57%. In Kalambur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Initially this town was famous for its production in rice. There are around 150- 200 rice mills. The town supplies rice to various towns in Tamil Nadu, various states and even various countries.

In kalambur, Rice Production is very famous and this rice has been supplied to various cities such as coimbatore, chennnai, vellore & exported to other countries also. Since kalambur rice's are very high quality.

Once it was known as the battle field and hence the name derived from "POR - means battle 7 "Kalam" - means the field. It denotes the battlefield.
