History

Like other municipalities, Kalamansig has its legendary origin of folklore. According to records, Kalamansig is a Manobo term “Kulaman-saig” which pertains to those dwellers in the coastal area, or literally means “the Manobo of the Waters”. The name evolved into “Kalamansig” which later become the official name. The Manobos are the first inhabitants of the place but progress and developments and pressure from migrants has slowly driven them out to the hinterlands.

In 1960 Kalamansig, Sta. Clara and Salaman were still the barrios of Lebak. The seat of government was in known Kalamansig (Poblacion, Kalamansig) today. Executive Order No. 432 dated April 12, 1951 when the seat of government of Lebak was transferred in bario of Salaman. December 29, 1961 President Carlos P. Garcia sign the executive order 459 creating the independent municipality of Kalamansig.
