Kainakary is a village in Kuttanad Taluk in Allappuzha District of Kerala state, was part of the erstwhile Chembakassery dynasty. It is famous for its unspoiled scenic beauty. Five rivers originating from the Western Ghats, including the sacred River Pamba drain into the Vembanad lake in the tip of Kainakary. The lush green coconut trees and paddy fields surrounded by blue water will give a refreshing trip to every tourist. Kainakary is synonymous with Kettuvallam or houseboats. Once a communist bastion, its literacy rate is top compared to many counterparts. Kainakary is famous for its Snake boat race rowers. Near about 15 years back the village lacks a kilometer of tarred road but the scenario has completely changed due to the Alappuzha Changanassery Highway. The major income is still from Agriculture and fishing despite tourism. Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara, one of the founding fathers and the first Superior General of C.M.I., born here.
