Kahi is a village and union council in Hangu District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.[1] It is located at 33°28'28N 70°51'37E and has an altitude of 982 metres (3225 feet).[2]
A beautiful yet developing village under supervision of Hangu District Council. Being a hub between the Governed and non Governed tribal area, Kahi has a significant political value among politician and tribal heads.
Majority of people living in Kahi has to rely on the farming of crops and the relatives abroad for living.
Historical Value: Nothing much except the Police base was built during the rule of British in 1930s (locally claimed).
There are 6 small Banda's (colonies) in Kahi. Out of which Bakar Banda is the largest (locally claimed). The name Kahi is basically word of English and this name is given by a British army official in 18th century.
Educational institutes: There are four schools operating in Kahi, out of which one is Government institute, these institutes are capable to outfit 10 to 12 years of the compulsory education, while other three schools are working as private institutes. Luckily, private schools in Kahi are playing a very significant role on generating an enormous educational trend in the village Kahi.
Beside this Kahi has a large Islamic institute called, "Jam'ia Dar ul Uloom Siraj ul Islam, Kahi" (جمعیہ دار العلوم سراج الاسلام، کاہی), founded 50 years ago by Late Maulana Habib ur Rehman, father of Akhunzada Muhammad Sadiqque (present MD of this institute and an Ex. MNA). This institute is providing the higher education to the students of Islamic studies. Students from all corners of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (خیبر پختونخواہ) are coming to this institute for Islamic studies. This institute accommodates about 1500 students at a time.
If the history of Kahi is examined it would be revealed that the first primary school was opened in 1913 A.D, later another school had opened in the district Hangu. KAHI was the central trade market of the whole district (Hangu). From all over the villages in the district people came here and exchange their merchandise.
The key persons in Kahi are Nazim (Voted controller) Laiq Khan Bangash and the Naib Nazim (voted vice controller) Hameed Rehman Bangash.
