History

KKLB started in the early '90s as Club 92 with a Contemporary Spanish Format. In the early 2000s, KKLB would flip to Spanish Oldies as La Lupe 92.5 FM and keep their KKLB calls.

On February 23, 2007 the call letters were changed from KKLB to KXXS as a result of a format switch to Spanish Pop as Digital 92.5. "La Lupe" would moved to AM 1560 KXTZ.

The Beat resurfaced on 104.9 and new call letters, KXBT, were assigned. On September 30, 2008 at 5:30 PM, Rhythmic The Beat would flip to a simulcast of "Digital" as Digital 104.9/92.5 to cover South Austin.

The Digital format would last until November 2, 2009. KXXS changed formats to sports, simulcasting KTTX 104.9 FM. The KXBT call letters would move to 98.9 and the KHHL calls would move to 103.1 FM in Karnes City, Texas, which formally housed the KTXX calls that were on once on 92.5 FM in Devine, Texas which would then become KSJL in 1998.

On November 30, 2009, KXXS split from the KTTX simulcast and changed their format to oldies with programming from Scott Shannon's True Oldies Channel.

On August 15, 2011, KXXS started simulcasting on 98.9 FM, KXBT. On September 3, 2011, the True Oldies format ceased operations on KXXS, making its permanent home on KXBT and the 92.5 FM frequency became an ESPN Deportes Radio affiliate. KWNX (AM 1260) began simulcasting KTXX ("104.9 The Horn") to provide coverage in Central Austin. KXXS can be heard best in the Elgin and East Austin areas, which have a sizable Hispanic/Latino demographic according to the 2010 United States Census Data.

KXXS is Austin's third sports station on the FM dial, along with KTXX and KVET.
