KTUD-LD, virtual channel 25.1 (digital channel 20), is an independent television station serving the Las Vegas, Nevada market owned and operated by the Greenspun Broadcasting, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Greenspun Corporation. Unlike other low-powered television stations, it is available on channel 14 through Cox Cable.

The "-CA" suffix in the call letters denotes the station's status as a "Class A" television station, a slight upgrade from its previous "low power" (-LP) designation. It now uses LD as its suffix denoting the station's status as a low power digital television station. The station's transmitter is located atop Mount Arden, 6 miles south of Henderson.

History

After the Sinclair Broadcast Group acquired what was then known as KUPN (now KVMY) and switched the station's affiliation to WB Network in 1998, Las Vegas was left without a UPN affiliate. The next year, channel 25 signed on as KCNG-LP and picked up the UPN affiliation. This station began its regular programming bringing local UPN service back to Las Vegas since KUPN became WB affiliation.

The station was renamed KTUD-LP in 2000, before switching to the "-CA" suffix in 2003. Initially owned by King Kong Broadcasting Inc., KTUD would go through a series of ownership changes before its acquisition by Greenspun.[1] On April 24, 2006, KTUD-CA announced that they were becoming an independent station. The station subsequently rebranded to "Vegas TV".[2]

KTUD-LD is low-powered, which means cable carriers are not bound by the FCC must-carry rule to carry KTUD on cable systems in the Las Vegas DMA. Cox Communications, the primary local cable company, refused to carry KCNG/KTUD for several years. It finally began to carry the station on Cox Cable channel 14. DirecTV also carries KTUD with the other "Las Vegas locals". Dish Network currently does not carry KTUD. On September 18, 2009 KTUD-LD began its digital transmission on Channel 25.1.
