KQPN is the local sports radio station located in West Memphis, Arkansas, and serving the Memphis, Tennessee, area. The station is branded as "Memphis' Sports Station", and is commonly referred to as '730 Fox Sports'. The featured programs are The Dan Wolken Show and The Chris Vernon Show.
730 Fox Sports is the Westwood One and Sports USA affiliate for the Memphis area, allowing it to provide an extensive amount of SEC football and NFL coverage to the Mid-South.
Chris Vernon and The Chris Vernon Show have won three consecutive ('07, '08, & '09) "M Awards" in Memphis Sport Magazine, each year winning in both categories Favorite Sports Radio Program and Favorite Sports Radio Personality. 2009's "M Awards" also saw Chris Vernon take home a third victory in the Favorite Sports Blog category, with his personal blog, CVERNON.COM. In 2007, Chris Vernon and The Chris Vernon Show took home several of The Memphis Flyer's Best of Memphis Awards, including 'Best Radio Personality', 'Best Drive Time Show', and 'Best Sports Radio Show'. That effort was followed in 2008 with another victory in the 'Best Sports Radio Show' category, as well as placing third in the overall category of 'Best Local Radio Talk Show'.
Chris Vernon has achieved flashes of national and international fame with his songs, "Ode to Pau (Who Wants a Crying Spaniard?)" and "Colonel Reb is Crying". "Ode to Pau" received a significant amount of back-and-forth between Vernon and journalists in Spain. "Colonel Reb Is Crying" became an instant Youtube.com success, as it made reference to Coach Ed Orgeron's unique talking style as well as alluding to several rumors about the coach's antics.
The Chris Vernon Show's producer Jon Roser, also had a brief moment of fame when auditioning for American Idol.
KQPN is also Memphis' home for Mississippi State athletics.
KSUD signed on 1962 and played rock and roll. By 1963, the music was a mix of folk, country, and gospel.[1] Previous formats include Contemporary Christian.[2]
In May 2005 KSUD became an ESPN Radio affiliate[3] and changed its letters to KQPN later that year.[4] On August 4, 2008, ESPN moved from WSMB to KQPN, and KQPN took over the Fox Sports programming from WSMB the next day.[5].
