KIID
KIID-AM (1470 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Children's Radio format. Licensed to Sacramento, California, USA. The station is currently owned by the Walt Disney Company and features programing from Radio Disney.[1]
The station went on the air as KXOA in 1945. The call letters were changed to KNDE in 1970 after KXOA AM and FM were sold to separate owners. On 1978-09-28, the station changed its call sign to KXOA which broadcast on 1470 AM for the most part in various incarnations since 1945. On 1997-04-15 the call sign was changed to KQPT. On 1998-07-16 to KOME. On 1999-01-15 to KRAK. On 2001-02-19 to the current KIID along with the sale to Disney and switch to a Radio Disney format.[2]
Transmitter Destruction
On July 15, 2009, two of the three radio towers KIID broadcasts from were melted due to a fire at the towers site. Tower 1 (the center tower) and tower 2 (the eastern tower) were destroyed.
KIID is currently broadcasting at reduced power in a non-directional pattern with the remaining tower 3 (the western tower).
