KEKS (103.1 FM "KISS 103.1") is a radio station broadcasting a CHR format. Licensed to Olpe, Kansas, USA, the station serves the Emporia, Kansas area. The station is currently owned by MyTown Media, LLC.

History

Before KEKS signed on the air, Emporia did not have a CHR formatted station. The closest station to the format was KFFX, "Mix 104.9", which is a satellite-fed hot adult contemporary station. Other stations included Junction City, Kansas station KJCK-FM, which tends to have a moderate to generally weak signal throughout Emporia, and from 2003-2005, Topeka-based Rhythmic CHR KKYD, "Wild 92.9" (now KMXN), which had a clear signal, as their transmitter was located near Reading, Kansas in Northeast Lyon County.

KEKS first went on the air as "Kiss 103.1" some time in 2007. This "1st version" of the station was a Rhythmic CHR and had DJs. Later on in the year, the station changed to an AC station as Channel 103.1, as its ownership was handed over to Tallgrass Media. However, this was temporary, as the format reverted to CHR in 2008. Tallgrass also retained the "Kiss 103.1" moniker. The station was sold to Pittsburg, Kansas-based MyTown Media, LLC in 2009. The station plays new music, but also mixes in older songs as well and tends to lean towards modern rock or rhythmic, as well as playing a wide variety of music, a rarity in most CHR stations in the United States. The "2nd version" of the station didn't have DJs for a while, but some were added later and were voicetracked; however, local jocks were added in March 2009.
