History of Junyuan Secondary School

Focus on School Values
Junyuan Secondary School was established in January 1999 to serve the Tampines community. Mrs Cecilia Lee, the first principal, charted the directions for the school with a strong focus on School Values. Beginning with just 320 students and 17 staff, the school population grew to more than 1000 within a few years.

Nuturing Champs @ Junyuan
Mrs Janet Oh assumed leadership in December 2004. Under her guidance, the school embarked on a journey to nurture the Champion Mindset of the students and staff so that they are empowered to Lead, to Serve and to Excel.

Quality and Excellence Through Innovation
In December 2010, Mdm Lee Lai Yong built on the strong foundation and sustained the momentum by leading the school on a journey towards Quality and Excellence through Innovation. As of March 2011, the school has 87 teaching staff and 14 administrative & operations staff.

School Crest

The letters 'J' and 'Y' nestling on a double S, symbolise the development and growth of the individual child in school, within the context of the community at large and the nation.

Junyuan, which means in Mandarin, "the source of good things", is the place where the pupils are taught to be persons of character and to discover, strive and pursue the truth and the ideals of education. It is also the place where the pupils are nurtured by a supportive school community to develop their potential as they challenge themselves to greater heights.

The students are constantly reminded that ultimately they have a role to play in society. Whilst the students are given opportunities to grow to be unique individuals, capable of independent thought and expression, they have a duty to be responsible citizens of the nation and the world.

School Vision, Mission & Core Values

At the end of 2009, the school leadership team revisited the school vision, purpose and core values with inputs drawn from teachers, students, Parents Support Group and School Advisory Committee. The outcome was a compelling need to re-envision and to establish a school vision statement (that had been for the last 10 years) that is both inspiring and able to capture more accurately the essence of the school’s 3 strategic directions: Achieving Academic Excellence, Growing the Champion Mindset, and Positioning as School for the Community. Moving forward, the school leaders and staff are committed to realizing this vision, that is, Junyuan - A Champion School for the Community

Students having experienced the quality of education in Junyuan should embody a champion mindset together with the following set of student outcomes: Reflective Learner, Critical Thinker, Effective Communicator, Quality Producer, and Community Contributor.

Our mission therefore is:

To Nurture and Empower Every Junyuan Champ to Lead, to Serve and to Excel

Underpinning the school vision and mission are our 5 core values:

Integrity, Care, Respect, Responsibility, Resilience

School song

Junyuan a place we can turn to,
a place that teaches right from wrong.
It's where we study, work and play,
to be skilled in every way.
It's where we strive to be disciplined and strong.

Junyuan is where we build our dreams on,
where good things are bestowed on us.
So in our future deeds and times,
in its name we sound the chimes,
let's proclaim our heritage with a stirring chorus.

For Junyuan we shall raise our cry,
and long shall our ensign fly;
our Alma Mater we sing thy praise,
in your colours we set the trail ablaze.

Let us proclaim our watchwords to all:
We are resolute,righteous, responsible.
Our motto we seek to uphold,
to exemplify and show,
Junyuan's emblem we would hoist to show the world.

For Junyuan we shall raise our cry,
and long shall our ensign fly;
our Alma Mater we sing thy praise,
in your colors we set the trail ablaze.
