Juglot

Juglot or Jaglot is a town in Gilgit District Pakistan, situated 45 km south east of Gilgit on the Karakoram Highway. It is located on the junction of three mighty mountain ranges, the Kurrakuram, Hindukush and Himalayas. It is also a junction point between Skardu and Gilgit. The road to Skardu branches off about six kilometres towards Gilgit. Juglot is strategically important since the olden times as it lay along the the old route linking the British India to China via Kashmir . Bunji the Historical garrison of the army of the Maharaja of Kashmir is situated across the River Indus.The struggle of Independence of Kashmir from the Sikh Manharaja of Kashmir also originated from Juglot. Even today Jaglot is the most important logistic base for the Pakistan Army which gained its importance form the time of the war in Siachin (1984),which became the highest battleground in the world. Even today the primitive gold panning from the Indus river is done by a tribe known as the Soniwals (gold hunters) Juglot is a fertile valley with rich natural resources and is one of the business hubs of the Northern Areas because all six districts have access through Juglot. The town is also contains the largest oil, wheat and flour depots for the Northern Areas. It has independent power generation facilities and therefore sufficient surplus electric power because of which a number of Flour Mills and Marble plants are located here. The people of Jaglot are tribal in nature, very hard-working and devout Muslims. The population of Juglot, including the suburbs, is approximately 45,000 in 3200 houses, with an education rate of 48%. Much of the development of Juglot is a result of the Army's presence.

Villages

Juglot contains fifteen villages which include:

• Damote (also known as shahot, kot, barmas, Gushot, bargin) There are some meadows where animals graze while in summer;
• Chakarkot (also known as Zarot, Sabil, Shumrote, Jagot); and
• Gasho Pahotethe village Gasho Pahote is the seringaty for animal grazing and an adequate stock of Trout fish found in these twin rivers .
• Manote population, Yashkuns ethnics live only in Manote village in majority.

Inhabitants

The Kashmiris occupy a major area while a portion of the population in proper Juglot consist of Marotche as well.
