John Sargent, alias Hogman, is a former heavyweight professional boxer from Minnesota.

Personal life

Sargent is a Native American from White Earth Indian Reservation in northern Minnesota. His present residence is in Naytahwaush, Minnesota.

Professional career

Sargent turned professional in 1990 and began his career in spectacular fashion with 17 consecutive wins, but he was inactive for about 18 months following his 17th win. On his return from that layoff Sargent lost controversially to a virtual unknown, Carl McGrew. Sargent continued to fight sporadically, interspersing long breaks - as long as three and a half years - which hampered the development of his career. He went on to fight several notable heavyweights, including Ross Puritty, Chris Byrd, Shannon Briggs, and Courage Tshabalala, defeating Puritty and losing to the others.[1] In early April 2008 it was reported that Sargent was making another comeback at the age of 44, following another three and a half year layoff.[1] At that time his career record was 27 wins (16 by knockout) and 5 losses.

On his comeback on April 12, 2008 he defeated Ritchie Goosehead by 5th round knockout.

On his second comeback fight on December 20, 2008 he fought in a rematch against Marcus Rhode and defeated him by 5th round technical knockout.
