John Longsworth is a former member of the Ohio General Assembly. Longsworth, from Columbiana County, Ohio, worked as a teacher and administrator for the school systems in the area for many years before seeking public office.[1] After the Voting Rights Act of 1965 enacted specific legislative districts, Longsworth ran for the 30th District of the Ohio Senate, winning a two year term in 1966.[2] In 1968, facing reelection, Longsworth was defeated, losing to Doug Applegate.
In 1972, Longsworth tried to make a comeback, running for a seat in the Ohio House of Representatives, however he lost to John Wargo.[3] Later on in his career, Longsworth moved to Austin, Texas, where he ran against Congressman Jake Pickle in 1992.[4] He ultimately lost to the incumbent, but ran again in 1994. Currently, he works as a real estate investor in the Austin, Texas, area.
