John Bowers (bishop)

The Rt Rev John Phillips Allcot Bowers (15 May 1854, Portsea, Hampshire – 6 January 1926, Norwich) was an Anglican bishop, Bishop of Thetford in the early part of the 20th Century.[1]

John Bowers was educated at Magdalen School and St John's College, Cambridge.[2] His first post after ordination was as a Curate at Coggeshall. In 1882 he became Domestic Chaplain to the Bishop of Gloucester and went on to be Diocesan Missioner, a Residentiary Canon at Gloucester Cathedral [3] and Archdeacon of Gloucester [4] before his elevation to the Episcopate. A prominent Freemason,[5] he died on 6 January 1926.
