Jerel McNeal (born June 1, 1987) is an American professional basketball shooting guard with Sutor Basket Montegranaro of Lega Basket Serie A. He played college basketball at Marquette University from 2005-2009 and is the school's all-time leading scorer.

Early life

McNeal was born June 1, 1987 Chicago, Illinois to parents Edward and Meryln McNeal. He attended Hillcrest High School along with point guard Maurice Acker, an eventual college teammate.

College career

On February 10, 2009, in a 102-84 loss at Villanova, McNeal broke George Thompson's 41-year-old school record of 1,773 points.

He won the Big East's Defensive Player of the Year Award as a sophomore in the 2006-07 season.

He was also the only guard on the Big East's All-First Team in 2008-09.

McNeal was an Associated Press second team All-American in 2008-09.

Professional career

McNeal went undrafted in the 2009 NBA Draft, but was invited to play for the Sacramento Kings in the 2009 Las Vegas Summer League. McNeal was with the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2009 NBA preseason. He was waived on October 19, 2009. He played for the Chicago Bulls in the Orlando Pro Summer League in 2010.[1] In 2010, McNeal played with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League. Through 40 games with the Vipers, McNeal was averaging 19.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game. On March 8, 2011, McNeal was called up from the NBA Development league and signed to a 10 day contract by the New Orleans Hornets.[2] He did not appear in a game for the Hornets, who chose not to renew his 10-day contract.[3]

Following the 2009-2010 D-League season, McNeal played for Dexia Mons-Hainaut of Basketball League Belgium, averaging 15.3 points. He was released shortly after drawing a two-week suspension for a positive marijuana test.[4]

On July 17, 2011, McNeal signed with Sutor Basket Montegranaro of Lega Basket Serie A.
