Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium (Malayalam: ജവഹര്ലാല് നെഹ്റു ഇന്റര്നാഷണല് സ്റ്റേഡിയം; locally known as Kaloor International Stadium – Malayalam: കലൂര് ഇന്റര്നാഷണല് സ്ടടിയം) is an international stadium in Kochi, Kerala. The stadium has a capacity of 60,000 spectators making it the third largest stadium in India after the Eden Gardens and Salt Lake Stadium, both in Kolkata.[1] The stadium was built in 1996 by the Government of Kerala with Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA).
Originally constructed as a football stadium, it has played host to a number of international cricket and football matches. The extensive grounds of the stadium serve as venue for important exhibitions, cinema events and political rallies in the city. The stadium is equipped with floodlights for playing at night. The architecture of the stadium is unique compared to other stadium in India. The most innovative aspect of the stadium is its unique lighting towers of 2 kW Floodlights which when switched on fully can provide lighting levels for HD telecast.
The stadium hosts the home games of football I-League team Chirag United Club Kerala. The stadium was also the home ground of the Indian Premier League franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala and the Kerala cricket team.

The cricket stadium in Kochi was expected to serve the Chennai Super Kings or the Royal Challengers Bangalore as a home venue apart from Chennai and Bangalore for the initial IPL seasons. However both the franchises initially refused and later promised to reconsider the offer, fearing decline in revenues. Eventually no matches of the first 3 IPL seasons were played in Kochi.
The auction for expanding the initial eight franchises to ten for the 2011 season was held on 22 March 2010. Rendezvous Sports World made the second highest bid of 1533.32 crores, and elected to base its team in Kochi.[2]
All renovation works at the stadium have been completed with new pitches, an improved outfield with better drainage facilities. The floodlight system was also renovated to the standards needed for day and night cricket. Kochi Tuskers Kerala have opened their office at the stadium. They have signed up with Federal Bank who is their principal sponsor and tickets for all matches would be available at select branches of the Federal Bank. Tickets are also avaliable online through Kyazoonga who will be Kochi's exclusive ticket partner.
The first IPL match held at the stadium was between Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Royal Challengers Bangalore on 9 April 2011. The match was also Kochi Tuskers first ever IPL match.

The I-League football team Chirag United Club Kerala will play at the Nehru Stadium for the 2011–12 I-League season and may continue to if the local IPL team says yes to the club.
A new stadium is being built at Edakochi by the Kerala Cricket Association to take over this cricket stadium at Kochi. But the stadium work is currently facing problems from environmental activists who feel that the construction of the stadium could have adverse effects on the environment. After the new stadium is built, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium will be used for football and athletics.
