James Thompson (1906 – 1966[1]) was a Canadian freestyle swimmer who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics.
He was born in Dundee, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1906.
In 1928 he was a member of the Canadian team which won the bronze medal in the 4 x 200 metre freestyle relay event. In the 400 metre freestyle competition as well as in the 1500 metre freestyle contest he was eliminated in the first round.
Two years later he won the gold medal with the Canadian team in 4 x 200 yards freestyle relay event.
He died of cancer in 1966.
