Jalakandapuram is a panchayat town in the Salem district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and has an average elevation of 269 metres (883 ft).

As of the 2001 Indian census,[1] the town had a population of 14,116 of which 51% were male and 49% female with 11% under six years of age. Jalakandapuram has an average literacy rate of 70%, which is higher than the national average of 59.5%:. Literacy stands at 78% for men and 63% for women. A significant portion of the population work in the textile industry as power loom and spinning mill labourers.
There are two higher secondary schools for girls and boys as well as more than six elementary schools around the town, as well as large government run hospital.
Jalakandapuram is well-known for its weaving, especially saris, which are distributed all over India.
Local festivals reflect Tamil culture and include the Ramalinga Sowdesweri Amman festival, the annual Mariamman festivals held in March/April, and the Soorasamharam in November. The town's main industry is weaving on both handlooms and powerlooms; there are booming factories with modern textile machinery and products. Cotton, ragi and cornflowers are all grown here. Dairy farms are also a mainstay of the town's economy.also well devoloping town too.
There are two lakes, one near a Soundamman temple and the other adjoining a Kaliamman temple.
Jalakandapuram is known for its temples. On the route to Salem, the Shri Om Kaliamman temple is located at Kattampatti, about 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) from the town bus station. The well-known Kaliamman Festival happens in January every year when thousands of devotees come to celebrate at the temple.
Other notable temples are the Ramalinga Sowdesweri Amman for Maha shakthi Soundamman. A Maha Kumbhabhishekam was held in June 2007 for Malayampalayam Ramalinga Sowdesweri Amman Temple. There is also a Kalyana Subramaniya Swamy temple dedicated to Lord Muruga where a Maha Kumbhabhishekam is held in the month of June.
There are three temples devoted to the goddess Soundamman, three temples to the goddess Mariamman, one to Lord Shiva owned by Malayampalayam Kannada Devanger's family and one dedicated to Lord Hanuman in the town.
There was a maha kumbhabisekam and two days festival held on Pappichettiyur Sri Ramalinga Sowdeswari Amman Temple at february 2011.This temple is in near to the bus stand.
