Jairamnagar

Jairamnagar is a railway station at a distance of about 14 km from Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.

It is a small railway station and village. The station code is JMRG. The station was named Jairamnagar after Rai Bahadur Jairam Valji Chauhan, a famous Gujrati & Kutchi Railway Contractor in 1929. He at one time used to own almost whole of Jairamnagar village land and also used to own mines of dolomite, manganese and limestone in and around Jairamnagar. There is a colony named Jairam Valji Colony also in Raigarh, where from he used to work as Railway Contractor. The station was named after him by British in honor of majestic Railway works and erection of Railway bridges done by him in Bilaspur - Raigarh -Jharsuguda section during the years 1924-30. Jairam Valji belonged to Kutch Gurjar Kshatriya community of Gujarat.[1][2][3]

The village has a huge and deep pond, which was once a limestone quarry belonging to Rai Bahadur Jairam Valji. People of Jairamnagar use its water for their needs. Beside the pond there is a beautiful Shiva temple built in 1922 by Jairam Valji Chauhan.
