Iwan Griffiths is drummer for Welsh rock band The Automatic, Iwan originates from Cowbridge in Wales, and currently resides in a house with band mates Robin Hawkins and James Frost.[1]

Musical career

Along with band mates Rob and Frost he was in the lineup of the bands original format when they were known as White Rabbit, later changing their name to The Automatic, an idea of Iwans, and recruiting screaming synth player Alex Pennie, and later guitarist Paul Mullen.[2]

Iwan is nicknamed Wange, coming from an amalgamation of the end of his first name and beginning of his surname. Griffiths has several times been compared to Bloc Partys Matt Tong, the two are said to look very similar to one and other.[3] Iwan is a fan of television series LOST, and film series Star Wars, on 15 August 2008 Iwan was interviewed on Starwars.com talking about his love the original trilogy (A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi) and being a fan of the Lego Star Wars Game.[4]

Being a big fan of David Hasselhoff; throughout 2005 and 2006 tours the band had been requesting shrines for musician/actor at the venues they perform at[5] the band have said they respect the actor and musician and would, in fact, at some point like to work with him, Frost also thanked the Hoff on the 2006 album sleeve of Not Accepted Anywhere. In 2006 the band aided Hasselhoff's chart success by purchasing all copies of his single "Jump in My Car" in Bristol Virgin Megastore; drummer Iwan Giffiths then justified their actions by saying the band were Hasselhoff fans and that they would love the opportunity to work with him at some point.[6][7]
