Ischyrochampsa
Ischyrochampsa is an extinct genus of Late Cretaceous mesoeucrocodylian. Fossils of the type species I. meridionalis are late Campanian in age and were found in the commune of Saint-Estève-Janson in Bouches-du-Rhône, France. Material is also known from Spain.[1] At an estimated length of over 4 metres (13 ft), Ischyrochampsa was a large mesoeucrocodylian.[2] It was named and described in 1995.[3]
Ischyrochampsa was first classified as a trematochampsid, but is now thought to be a more basal mesoeucrocodylian.[4][5] It is one of only a few non-eusuchian mesoeucrocodylians found in Europe during the Late Cretaceous, the others being Doratodon and Theriosuchus.[1][5]
