Ipini is the tribe of bark beetles which includes the stenographer beetle Ips sexdentatus and the typographer beetle Ips typhographus, so-called because of the distinctive patterns left in dead trees by their egg-laying and larval tunnels under the bark.
The stenographer beetle has another common name in French: le catchote.
