Ion Ţurcanu (born January 15, 1946, Găureni) is a Moldovan professor, author, and politician. He was editor in chief of "Cartea Moldovenească", "Patrimoniu", and "Revista de istorie a Moldovei". Ion Ţurcanu served as a Member of the Parliament (1990–1994) and the chairman of the New National Moldovan Party.

Biography

Ion Ţurcanu was born January 15, 1946 in Găureni. He graduated from Moldova State University and got his PhD in 1975. He has been working for Moldova State University since 1981. He was a member of the Moldavian Democratic Movement.[1] and was elected as MP in 1990 parliamentary election.

Between 1989 and 1990 was editor in chief of Editura "Cartea Moldovenească", and between 1993 and 1996 director of this printing house. Between 1990 and 1995, he was the editor in chief of Patrimoniu and Revista de istorie a Moldovei historical Magazines.[2]

Ion Ţurcanu became the chairman of the New National Moldovan Party on April 23, 1998, at the founding Congress of the party.[3]
