Investment Management Association

The Investment Management Association(IMA) is a not for profit trade association representing the UK investment management industry. It has 185 members, accounting for over 90% of the industry in the UK. Its members manage over £3.9 trillion of assets on behalf of UK and overseas clients.

Its role is to represent the interests of the industry to government and regulators in the UK and internationally, and to promote high standards within the industry.

The IMA sets out its policy positions by responding to consultations by the Government, regulators, the European Commission and others. It maintains links with Parliamentarians in both Westminster and the European Parliament and conducts research into various aspects of the industry to help inform policy submissions.

The IMA maintains fund sectors, that is a system of classifying funds which helps investors and their advisers find and select suitable funds. Funds in IMA sectors are regularly monitored for compliance with sector definitions, and oversight of the system is led by an industry committee, the Sectors Committee.

The IMA is dedicated to improving understanding of the investment management industry. Their website has a consumer area for people interested in investing or learning about investment management.[1]
