The Institute of Human Virology (IHV) of the University of Maryland School of Medicine is a center in Baltimore City focusing on chronic viral diseases, most notably HIV/AIDS, and virally linked cancers. The institute is a part of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, with the collaboration of the State of Maryland, the City of Baltimore, and the University System of Maryland and the University of Maryland Medical System The Director of the institute Robert C. Gallo. The institute was founded in 1996, and now has more than 100 staff, and international collaborations at 109 locations. [1]
The research at the Institute includes the basic science of virology, the applied science of vaccine development, and direct clinical applications.
